Reading Age Statistics

We are in the process of collating reading age statistics from various sources.

Following are some preliminary data and charts from our most successful schools around the world:

Westland Cluster, South Island, New Zealand.

Earlier this year, Westland Resource teachers Ian Johnson, George Barry and Michelle Urmson sent us preliminary statistics from their highly successful literacy project at Hokitika School in Westland, New Zealand.  Hokitika Data/Chart

Sharnbrook Upper School, Bedfordshire, U.K.

Early data from the Sharnbrook buddy scheme (further details of the scheme are available on our Best Practice Schools Page) are very exciting. Sharnbrook Data/Chart

Lindley Junior School, Huddersfield, W Yorks, U.K.

Ruth Shimell, senco at Lindley has organised an excellent early intervention scheme run by teaching assistants.  (Further details of the scheme at Lindley are available on our Best Practice Schools Page).  Lindley Data/Chart

Glenyss Mancktelow-Walker, a Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) in South Taranaki, New Zealand has also been obtaining impressive results using TBT under teacher's aide supervision.  South Taranaki Data/Chart

St George's Grammar School, Bloemendal, Mowbray, South Africa

Linda van Duuren, Support Co-ordinator at St George's, heard about TBT from her friend, Linda Murray, who had been teaching in Glasgow.  Linda Murray sent a copy to South Africa and Linda set up a TBT literacy project at St George's.  The project was a great success and Linda kept careful notes of progress in terms of the children's reading ages (using the Burt Test)    St George's Data/Chart
